The vendor that has helped me attain success is... B&H Photo has been an invaluable resource. They have great customer service, super fast shipping and let's not forget that they are less expensive than literally everyone else.
If not a photographer I would have been a... conceptual artist for motion pictures. In fact, photography was a complete fluke for me. I randomly bought a camera while applying to Art Center College of Design. I ended up ditching the college when I realized that taking photos made me happier than creating monsters and characters ever had.
5 things I must have on every photo shoot are ... myself, a camera, some light, a subject, and inspiration.
Something I MUST HAVE for my business in 2008... A 17" MacBook Pro. Ok, ok, I don't NEED it, I won't die without it, but does that really matter?
Where I find my inspiration is... everywhere. Most of the time inspiration wakes me up at 2 a.m. and won't let me rest until I flesh out the idea on paper.
The photographer who inspires me is... THE photographer? It's hard to say. I spend a lot of time critiquing other photographers' work and it is rare that I find something that doesn't inspire me. Sante D'orazio and Rick Wahlstrom are just two of many that I have an immense admiration for.
One blog I frequent often... Well, I don't really visit many. I spend too much time keeping up with forums on the sites I am a member of. I have one bookmarked for some reason though, and I don't bookmark stuff unless it's really good, so I guess my answer is that one: digitalpixels.net
Something that is overrated in this business... is spending all of your time surrounded by models. Most of them are totally average people with average problems and average idiosyncrasies.
MAC or PC? I use both. Each system has its advantages over the other.
A new and upcoming photographer that should be BLU's PHOTOGRAPHER of the YEAR... You mean aside from me? (Kidding.) There is a young lady I mentored who is fast becoming one of the best event photographers I have had the pleasure of knowing. Her name is Jan Datu.
One thing I MUST do to improve my business... I need to advertise more. I get lax in my marketing and tend to let people find me of their own accord.
On an average night I sleep... between 4 to 8 hours depending on how calm my mind decides to be.
My guilty pleasure... is ignoring household chores to watch a movie.
Something that is beautiful is... light. Without it what could be beautiful?
2008 our president should be... the one that lies the least, or at least hides it the best.
$500.00 to spend for yourself only what is the first thing you would buy... I would buy a nice pair of black Aldo Oxfords. There are tons of shoes out there but there is nothing more timeless in men's footwear than a good, simple oxford.
Something you must have... You know, I actually really need a new suit steamer.
My best feature... I hear that I have a good back, but I can't see it, so I can't confirm this "fact."
The product I use to wash my face... Plain ol' Irish Spring, nothing special. I think it may have aloe in it; is that special?
Today I bought... Gas, a BBQ brisket sandwich, two surprisingly nice tweed sport coats from the Goodwill store down the street, and a few books from Amazon. Oh, and groceries.
Something about me... I always thought I wanted to live on the coast. You know, LA or NYC. But the more time I spend away from Kansas City, the more I realize that KC is somehow exactly where I want to be.
I am addicted to... movies.
One goal I have this year... I am trying to take photos - just for myself – at least once a week. Too often other things get in the way, be it work or life. I miss taking photos for the sheer bliss of it all.
