I rarely use vending machines—In fact I feel the same distaste for them that I do theme parks and karaoke in the US. I tend to only get down with them when I am in other countries, like Japan for instance. My vending machine use in Japan is fueled by two things: One being the fact that I actually have change in my pocket (I almost never do back home) and second being that they are on just about every corner. What appeals to me when I do indulge in a foreign vending machine: Hot tea/coffee (because it's hot and that's really neat coming out of a vending machine) and Sapporo or Asahi in the large bulletproof (seeming) can (because it's beer and that's really neat coming out of a vending machine too).

Artist Statement
As an animal lover, I'm curious about the quality of life for animals on working farms. During a seven-week workstudy program at the Maine Media Workshops, I set out to explore various farming operations and philosophies in the midcoast Maine region. I chose to investigate whether or not an animal's expressions, behaviors, and appearance were indicative of its surroundings. My findings are reflected in these photographs.
